February 22, 2014 holds a special memory for me when I took my son ice skating in Franklin, MA. It was a day filled with excitement and fun. I vividly remember the joy on his face as he skated around like he was a professional speed skater (video link in first picture)
Contrasting with his previous experience at the Frog Pond, where he mostly fell a year earlier, this was his first time on public ice that year. The change was remarkable. It was as if he had found his balance and confidence overnight. As he glided across the ice, his smile grew wider with each passing moment.
Time flew by, and before we knew it, May 6, 2014 arrived, marking a significant achievement for my son. At the age of 7 years and 9 months, he passed his first skating level. It was a proud moment for both of us, as we celebrated his progress.
The following month, he had the opportunity to participate in his first basic skills competition. The excitement was palpable as he prepared to showcase his skills. I could see a mix of nerves and determination in his eyes as he stepped onto the ice, ready to give it his all.
June 7, 2014, a date etched in my memory forever. It was on this day that my son proudly secured his first gold medal. The sense of accomplishment radiated from him as he stood on the podium, basking in the applause and admiration of the crowd. My son's first words after stepping off the podium were, "Phew, I was so afraid I would get silver."
Ice skating has become more than just a hobby for my son. It has taught him resilience, discipline, and the importance of setting goals. It has given him a sense of accomplishment and a platform to showcase his talents. But most importantly, it has brought us closer, creating a bond that will last a lifetime.
So, as I look back on that special day in February 2014, I am filled with gratitude for the memories we have made and the milestones we have achieved. I am excited to continue this journey with my son, supporting him every step of the way, and cherishing the moments we share on the ice.
